Karen grew up in New Hampshire where she attended the University of New Hampshire and received an Associates Degree in Applied Animal Science. While in New Hampshire she worked for a local veterinary hospital for three years in the kennel and then as an assistant. Along with the routine care of cats and dogs, she also worked with the doctors and other assistants on rehabilitating wild animals and working with the local zoo on tigers and flamingos. Karen started working here at the Village Veterinary Hospital after moving to New York in 1989. She attained an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from St. Petersburg College and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Some of her special interests include surgery, nursing care and laboratory procedures. Karen is married with one son. She and her husband, Al, enjoy flower and vegetable gardening and vacationing in Maine. Karen also enjoys spinning her alpaca fiber into yarn. They have a mixed breed dog named Bosco, two cats, Milo and Cosmo, a Guinea Pig named George and five alpacas.

Stacy graduated from Cicero North Syracuse High School and then from SUNY Delhi with a degree in veterinary technology in 2001. She attended a continuing education seminar at SUNY Ulster this year and studied behavior, dentistry and laboratory procedures. Stacy has worked here at Village Vet. for eight years and has a special interest in dentistry, behavior and surgery. Stacy also loves agility and works with Pawsitively Awesome, Syracuse Obedience Training Club (SOTC) and Dotties Dog School, where she also teaches classes. (See our "Obedience/Training" page in our Pet Library.) She and her husband Ryan own a home in E. Syracuse and have three Australian Shepherds, Zeke, Indigo and Chatter. They also have two cats, Tinkerbell and Ling. Stacy is a member of SOTC, NYSAVT and competes with her Aussies in Excellent A agility and CPE events. Stacy and Ryan have recently welcomed a new addition to there home. A daughter, Lauren.
Kelly started here at VVH in 1992 working in the kennel. She went on to graduate from SUNY Canton and is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She loves working in surgery. She is very good at organizing the surgery day and keeping the doctors on task. Kelly lives in Verona and has two children, Andrew and Kiersten. She also has two Siamese cats, Gizmo and Gadget and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Topsy. Kelly has been involved in karate since she was in Junior High and obtained her black belt in karate in High School. She is currently teaching karate and participating in classes in Rome. Her son Andrew (who is six) is following suit and has earned his "Blue Ranger" belt so far.

Cathy has been with us since 2005. She is a veterinary assistant and groomer. Cathy is a graduate of Oneida High School and has recently received a degree in veterinary technology from Cedar College in Texas. Her favorite thing about working at VVH is - everything! Cathy and her significant other, Jim, live in Oneida and have two Dalmatians, Margo and Jarrod and a Bichon named Star, who has won two Best of Breeds and a Welsh terrier named Georgie Anna. They also have three cats, Jelly, Henry and Flower. Cathy and Jim used to breed and show Dalmatians. Margo (who is 12 years old now) is an American Canadian Champion winning Best of Breed and Specialty WB (Winners Bitch). Jarrod is Margo's 11 year old 1/2 brother and is also an American Canadian Champion, finishing in one month! She enjoys fishing, gardening and reading. She especially enjoys reading Western novels and has over 300 of them. She freezes, cans and dries much of the fruits and veggies she grows.

Stacey is a receptionist and veterinary assistant who started at VVH in August of 2002. Stacey has worked around animals all her life on her family's farm and has gained lots of hands on experience while working here. Her favorite thing about working at VVH is that no two days are ever the same. She enjoys working with our clients and their animals. Her ability to connect with people and their pets is of invaluable assistance to both our clients and doctors. She goes the extra mile to make certain that your pet is comfortable throughout his/her visit here and that all his/her needs are attended to. Stacey has a two quarter horses, Luna and Tinker, a Min. Poodle named Winnie and a Min. Schnauzer named Betty. She enjoys trail riding, barrel racing, team penning and sorting. She is a Sargeant in the Army ("68m" a dietitian in a combat support hospital) with 13 years of service. Stacey and her boyfriend Steve live in Camden and enjoy snow mobiling, trail riding and recently welcomed a new daughter, Samantha Marie.
Tammy is a veterinary assistant who started working at VVH in December of 1996. Tammy graduated from Morrisville College with an Associates in Applied Science, majoring in equine science. Tammy loves working with all the animals here at VVH. She has a special interest in helping them maintain a good quality of life through her knowledge and experience. Tammy and her husband Bob, live in Vernon and have a 5 year old daughter, Madison who is an amazing swimmer, loves dancing and horseback riding and a 4 year old son, Zachary who loves trains and wants to play football someday. They have 2 dogs: a Bernese Mountain Dog named Mae and a Golden Retriever named Sampson (who she has trained in agility), a Lionhead rabbit named Simba and also a paint mare horse named Epi. Tammy and her family enjoy horse riding, swimming, riding bikes, gardening, snowmobiling, down hill skiing, camping and pretty much anything outdoors.
Shoshana grew up in the Syracuse area and attended New York University in Manhattan, from which she earned a bachelors degree in biology and physics in 2007. She has since interned at The Wilds, a conservation facility in Ohio, and the Smithsonian's Conservation and Research Center, in Virginia, working with onagers, rhinos and other endangered animals from around the world. She joined VVH as a veterinary assistant in June of 2008, and will soon be pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine. Shoshana has considered everything from rats to a horse as animal family members in the past, and is currently owned by two Siberian huskies (Nika and Rami), an African Grey Parrot (Virgil), a mini-macaw (Basil), two red-eared slider turtles (Snap and Galadriel), and numerous goldfish and tropical fish. In her free time, she enjoys reading, singing, organizing, hiking, dog-sledding and international travel. Shoshana was recently accepted at Cornell University's veterinary program and we wish her well! Come back and visit us sometime Shoshana!

Mike is a veterinary technician who grew up in New Fane, NY. He attended SUNY Canton and then went on to recieve a degree in veterinary technology from Utah Career College in Layton Utah, which is north of Salt Lake. Mike was out west because he was in the Air Force, where he was an aircraft mechanic for six years and retired as an E5 or Staff Sargeant. Some of Mike's personal interests include, art (drawing, wood carving and models), tinkering with electronics, cartoons, archery and exotic pets. He has had hairless rats, chameleons and sugar gliders in the past. Most recenty he has aquired an African Gray parrot.
